Inside the Forest City Dance Hall, which is in the process of being
converted into a museum. This room was originally the barber shop, the
sink and cabinets are original barber shop furnishings.
The
gold scale that Rachael is testing was originally used back in the 1880's
to measure the purchase prices at the Meat Market just down the street.
In the foreground is the Forest City Fire Bell. Forest City
suffered from many fires, but the worst was in 1883. This was partially
due to the way the buildings were built right next to each other and the
fact that the fire hoses were so rotten that they burst when they were
used to fight the fire. 82 buildings were lost in this fire and more of
the historic buildings were lost in 1936 and 1945 fires. |
