The Sterritt Mine is located in the Canada Hill mining district, which also included Sailor Flat,  Robertson Flat, and the New York Canyon areas above a fork of the American River. 

  A 1899 California Mines and Minerals Report stated there was a 10-Stamp mill at the site. Another Mining Report stated that there were 10 stamps with amalgamation plates, concentrators, and a cyanide plant installed in 1908. The 10-Stamp Mill was water powered and the mine tunnel was about 1500 feet deep. The entrance to the mine is now caved.

  In 1915 it was reported that the mine was owned by the New York Mining Company and had been leased to the Viking Mining Company who had installed the machinery, The ore assayed at a value of $3.45 a ton.
